CESC posts profit of ₹ 266 crore
Kolkata: Benefiting from a revision in tariff, power distribution and generation company CESC Ltd has in the quarter till March posted a net profit of ₹ 266 crore as against ₹ 112 crore in the same period previous year.
On a like-for-like comparison, CESC’s net profit jumped 20.5% year-on-year, on a 4-5% growth in power sales by volume. CESC’s full year net profit jumped 15.77% over last fiscal 2011 to Rs565 crore. The standalone figures do not include the losses in its retail business.
On a revenue of ₹ 1,292 crore, Spencer’s Retail is expected to registered a cash loss of around ₹ 120 crore in fiscal 2012.
CESC on Tuesday announced that it would set up a 1,920 mw power plant in West Bengal on a 997-acre plot it has owned in Balagarh for decades. Vice-chairman Sanjiv Goenka said the West Bengal government had committed to provide coal for the project.
