Plan panel may discuss CIL stake sale today
New Delhi: Disinvestment in Coal India Ltd and a strategy for importing coal are expected to come up for discussion in the mid-term review of the coal ministry by the Planning Commission on Wednesday.
Coal secretary C. Balakrishnan and CIL chairman Partha S. Bhattacharyya are likely to attend the meeting, which will be chaired by Planning Commission member (energy) B.K. Chaturvedi.
During the review, the plan panel would analyse the coal ministry’s progress in view of the target set in the 11th Five-year Plan, Chaturvedi said.
Separately, coal minister Sriprakash Jaiswal said CIL’s production increased 9.9% to 184.4 million tonnes (mt) in the six months ended 30 September.
CIL aims to exceed this year’s output target of 435 mt, Jaiswal said.
