New Delhi: The ministry of urban development on Wednesday proposed a special purpose vehicle (SPV) to set up and maintain sewage treatment plants in 118 cities and towns located along river Ganga.

The entire expenditure for the project will be met by the Centre. The proposal was made at a review meeting of “Namaami Ganga", the government’s project to clean the river.

“The SPV will ensure that demand-supply gap in respect of sewerage treatment in urban areas will be met in line with timeframe for cleaning the River Ganga," said a statement released by the ministry of urban development.
