BJP demands ban on top govt officials for constitutional posts
The BJP seeks a ban or a cooling-off period for top govt officials accepting constitutional posts
New Delhi: The main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday demanded a ban or a cooling-off period for top government officials accepting constitutional posts.
“Just like the restrictions on the appointment of the central vigilance commissioner (CVC) and CAG (comptroller and auditor general), other top government officials also should be banned from being appointed in constitutional posts or there should be a cooling-off period," BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi said outside the Parliament house.
Referring to the recent appointment of former Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) director Ashwani Kumar as the governor of Nagaland, Joshi said: “Successive appointments have proved that the CBI is being used by the UPA (United Progressive Alliance) government...These (appointments) are given in quid pro quo."
V. Narayanasamy, minister of state, Prime Minister’s Office, pointed out that Kumar had retired two years ago.
“The BJP may check its own record. How many police officials had been given posts during its time... former CVC T.N. Chaturvedi had been given governor’s post. They tend to forget all these," Narayanasamy said.
