Harsimrat Kaur Badal, the daughter-in-law of Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and wife of deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal is contesting for re-election from Bathinda in Punjab on a Shiromani Akali Dal ticket. Members of the Badal family—her father in-law, husband and mother-in-law Surinder Kaur—have stakes in companies including Orbit Resorts Pvt. Ltd, Metro Eco Green Resorts Ltd, Saanjh Foundation, Falcon Properties Pvt. Ltd, Dabwali Transport Co. Ltd and Orbit Aviation Pvt. Ltd.
Separately, Harsimrat’s immediate maternal family, which includes her father Satyajit Singh Majithia, mother Sukhmanjus Majithia, brothers Bikram Singh Majithia and Gurmeher Singh Majithia (and his wife Savpreet Kaur Majithia), control several companies, including Saraya Industries Ltd (with sister concerns including Saraya Sugar Mills Ltd, Saraya Renewable Energy Pvt. Ltd and Saraya Aviation Pvt. Ltd), Ajnala Power Pvt. Ltd and Batala Power Pvt. Ltd. The Majithia and the Badal families do not have any cross-holdings among themselves.
