New Delhi: The Congress on Thursday released its first list of 61 candidates for the Punjab Assembly elections on Thursday.
Former chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh will contest from his home turf, the Patiala assembly seat, in the Punjab elections scheduled for early next year. The official Twitter handle of Congress’ Punjab unit quoted Amarinder Singh as saying that ‘those who couldn’t make it’ to the list ‘will be accommodated once party forms government’.
The party claims ‘winnability’ was the key criteria in selecting candidates in the first list which included 31 sitting MLAs, 8 former MLAs and 1 former MP.
Others who made it to the first list includes Charanjit Singh Channi, Congress’ Legislative Party (CLP) leader from Chamkaur Sahib and Manpreet Singh Badal, former leader of People’s Party of Punjab (now merged with Congress) from Bathinda Urban.
