Mumbai: Investment banks, consultancies and financial services firms interviewed and offered positions to the class of 2014 of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) on Sunday, despite expectations that demand for management graduates will be muted in a year when economic growth has been tepid.

The list of recruiters included Accenture Plc, AT Kearney, Bain and Co., Boston Consulting Group, Citigroup Inc., Deutsche Bank AG, Goldman Sachs Group Inc., McKinsey and Co. and Oliver Wyman, IIM-A said in a statement.

Accenture made the highest number of offers at 18. “The excellent student quality with diverse background and profiles, apart from the past experience with students recruited from IIM-A and their track record, brings us to campus every year and drives us to recruit more people," a company executive said, requesting anonymity.

“At IIM Ahmedabad, we get the right mix of industry experience, analytical strength and international exposure in potential candidates," said Rahul Gangal, a principal at Roland Berger Strategy Consultants.

According to an HSBC official, who also declined to be named, the company prefers to recruit from IIM Ahmedabad because of the quality of students and the long-lasting association the firm has established with the institution. “Within HSBC, we have alumni of the institute who have helped in delivering a great HSBC experience to onboard candidates," the official said.
