Bengaluru: The Karnataka government on Monday inducted a new minister and promoted two others to cabinet rank. The latest addition to the council of ministers takes the total to 33.
The new minister, M. Krishnappa, a member of the legislative assembly from Vijayanagar in Bengaluru, was not given a berth in the last cabinet reshuffle in June, which had led to protests by his supporters.
Ministers Vinay R. Kulkarni and A. Manju were promoted to cabinet rank.
The Siddaramaiah-led Congress government in Karnataka dropped 14 ministers in the previous reshuffle and inducted 13 new ministers—nine cabinet and four ministers of state.
Krishnappa’s induction into the cabinet is being viewed as a move to appease the prominent and politically influential Vokkaliga community.
Two prominent Vokkaliga ministers—M.H. Ambareesh and Kimmane Ratnakar—were dropped in the June reshuffle.
Krishnappa’s son Priyakrishna is an MLA from Govindrajnagar in Bengaluru.
