Yamuna pollution: green court pulls up Delhi, UP
A NGT bench has sought affidavits on debris generated by projects in the last 10 years and details regarding its disposal
New Delhi: India’s national green tribunal on Thursday pulled up several officials of the Delhi and Uttar Pradesh administration for failure to curb the dumping of building waste along the Yamuna.
A bench led by the tribunal’s chairperson justice Swantanter Kumar gave the officials six weeks to file affidavits on the quantum of debris generated by various projects in the last 10 years and the details regarding the disposal of this. The officials were also asked to provide a list of contractors who worked on these projects and also the size of the projects.
Those pulled up by the court include the vice-chairman of Delhi Development Authority, director general of Central Public Works Department, director general of Public Works Department, chief secretary of Uttar Pradesh, and chief secretary of Delhi .
The tribunal has asked the officials to provide details as to where the debris of such huge quantity has appeared on the banks of the Yamuna.
