New Delhi: World Press Freedom Day on 3 May, apart from being an occasion to celebrate the independence of the press, is also a day to remember colleagues killed in the line of duty.

In 2013, 70 journalists were killed worldwide, with Syria accounting for 40% of these, shows data from the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), an independent, not-for-profit organization that promotes press freedom globally.

Twenty-eight journalists were killed in the West Asian nation, which has been in the midst of a civil war since 2011. In India, three journalists were killed in 2013
