SC pushes Tarun Tejpal trial by three weeks
The court gave three weeks to the trial judge to ensure Tejpal was provided with the required documents of the case
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday pushed back trial in a sexual assault case against former editor-in-chief of Tehelka magazine, Tarun Tejpal, by three weeks.
A bench with chief justice H.L. Dattu and justice A. K. Sikri gave three weeks to the trial judge to ensure Tejpal was provided with the required documents of the case.
Tejpal had moved the apex court stating that a Goa sessions court had proceeded with arguments on charges framed against him without providing him the necessary documents.
A bench headed by then justice Dattu had on 1 July granted bail to Tejpal with a direction to the trial court to complete the trial within eight months. Tejpal is charged with sexual assault, rape and outraging the modesty of a colleague.
