Home / Industry / Govt allots Rs2 crore each for smart cities’ plan preparation

New Delhi: In the second phase of the central government’s smart cities mission, the ministry of urban development has sanctioned a sum of 194 crore for 96 selected cities to prepare city level plans. Two union territories (UTs)—Delhi and Chandigarh—will be sanctioned funds from the home ministry.

“Rs 2 crore per city has been provided for the preparation of city level smart city plans with the assistance of technical and other agencies," said a statement released by the ministry of urban development.

A regional workshop held in Delhi on Thursday was attended by representatives of 11 states. More such regional workshops will be held in Kolkata and Hyderabad.

Addressing the workshop, minister for urban development and parliamentary affairs M. Venkaiah Naidu said: “A paradigm shift has been introduced to enable the success of new urban development initiatives based on the learnings of the past, including the implementation of JNNURM (Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission)."
