New Delhi: The department of information technology (DIT) will appeal against an order issued last week by a court in Gwalior court blocking 73 web URLs that contained material critical of the Indian Institute of Planning and Management (IIPM), according to senior officials.

DIT will make its appeal at the next hearing on 28 February, the officials said.

“The minister (Kapil Sibal) has directed the ministry to file the appeal and if possible get the order vacated," said a ministry of communications and information technology official requesting anonymity. “The order was ex parte, so the government was not party to the case."

Kapil Sibal is India’s communications and IT minister.

Arindam Chaudhuri, who runs IIPM, said in an interview with Firstpost that the case was filed last year by one of his ‘channel partners’ and the the court had made him a party in the case only in January. He would soon respond to the court orders, he said.

The list of blocked web pages includes a University Grants Commission (UGC) notice stating that IIPM is not accredited by it.
