Hyderabad: Narendra Modi, the prime ministerial nominee of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), attacked the president of YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy in his maiden tour of coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema, together called Seemandhra, even as he promised to usher in prosperity in the bifurcated state if he becomes Prime Minister.

But for people to experience the true fruits of development, Modi said, Seemandhra electorate should vote for N. Chandrababu Naidu, president of Telugu Desam Party (TDP), and BJP’s ally in Andhra Pradesh, as chief minister.

“It’s in your hands whether you want Seemandhra or Scamandhra," Modi said, referring to Jagan Mohan Reddy who has been charged by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for doling out favours to businesses and individuals in exchange for investments in his companies during the time his father Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy was the state’s chief minister.

“If you want a Swarnandhra (jewel Andhra), I am here for you. Whatever you need to build your state, I will grant it," Modi told a large public meeting in the temple town of Tirupati. “But if you vote for Scamandhra, no matter what the government in Delhi does, the benefits will not reach you," he said, endorsing Naidu as Seemandhra’s chief minister.

“Both our minds work the same way. His mind always thinks of development. Even I always think of development," he said of Naidu. “Both of us have grand plans."

Seemandhra, Modi said, has enormous potential to develop the oil and gas industry as well as become the hardware capital of the country. “I have the blueprint ready in my mind to develop Seemandhra," Modi said.
