UIDAI launches special drive to enrol people not registered for Aadhaar
During the month-long drive starting 15 October, UIDAI will only accept enrolment requests from persons above the age of 18 years
New Delhi: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) will start a special drive to enrol people who have not registered for Aadhaar across 22 states and union territories (UTs).
The residents of these 22 states and UT’s have been asked to register themselves here. On completing the registration, they would be enrolled for an Aadhaar number on a priority basis.
During the month-long drive starting 15 October, UIDAI will only accept enrolment requests from persons above the age of 18 years. People have been asked to submit their mobile numbers along with demographic details as a mobile OTP- (one-time password) based verification will be conducted once a person submits the enrolment request.
“The challenge drive will ensure that nobody is left without an Aadhaar in these States/UTs which statistically have 100% Aadhaar saturation. This is in furtherance of our enrolment exercise to achieve universal coverage for Aadhaar across the country," Ajay Bhushan Pandey, chief executive of UIDAI.
Aadhaar enrolment has already crossed the 1.06 billion mark, covering about 95% of the adult population.
“All the eight regional offices of UIDAI have been directed to take necessary steps in respective State/UTs/ National State Registrar (NSR)’s/ Enrolment Agencies (EAs) for facilitating the enrolment of the resident registered under the challenge drive and enrol infirm and elderly residents at home," Pandey added.
