New Delhi: Delhi’s ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday accused the central government of deliberately stalling bills passed by the city-state’s legislative assembly.

The accusation follows a row between the AAP administration and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government at the Centre over a bill that sought to protect 21 AAP legislators who face disqualification for holding an office of profit after being appointed parliamentary secretaries. The bill was denied presidential approval.

On Wednesday, AAP spokesperson Dilip Pandey said other pro-people bills too had been held up by the Centre, citing the Delhi School Education (Amendment) Bill, 2015, Minimum Wages (Delhi) Amendment Bill 2015, Delhi Netaji Subhash University of Technology Bill 2015 and The Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (Delhi Amendment) Bill 2015

Pandey questioned why the centre was silent on these bills, which involve no office of profit for any AAP legislator, but have been enacted by the Delhi Assembly for the good of the people.

AAP claims that the good work being done by its government in Delhi is being obstructed by the Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA government.

The matter of the 21 legislators who were appointed parliamentary secretaries is being considered by the Election Commission. AAP claimed that they were not being compensated for occupying the post.
