BSNL asks tainted TMC MP Kunal Ghosh to join advisory panel

Kunal Ghosh was recently released on bail after being detained by Kolkata Police and CBI for allegedly helping the Saradha Group run Ponzi scheme

Kolkata: In a surprise move, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL), an enterprise owned by the Union government, has appointed Kunal Ghosh, a member of the Rajya Sabha, as a member of the telephone advisory committee for Kolkata.

The almost forgotten influential leader, who was expelled from the Trinamool Congress, was recently released on bail after being detained by the Kolkata Police and the Central Bureau of Investigation for allegedly helping the Saradha Group run Ponzi schemes.

Ghosh, who used to be the chief executive of Saradha’s media wing, said he was honoured by the gesture, but will decide on joining the panel only after discussing the proposal with his lawyers.

On Friday, Ghosh obtained indefinite bail; he was released in October on interim bail after almost three years in detention.
