New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIM-B) on Thursday announced that it will offer massive online open courses (MOOCs) in collaboration with edX, an online education platform founded by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Harvard University.
“Our first promise is that of massive reach. Associated with that promise of massive reach is an enormous opportunity for social impact. We want to reach out to the masses and make the power of technology accessible to everyone by highlighting quality and designing the courses carefully to make them easily deliverable to all,” said IIM-B director Sushil Vachani.
He said IIMBx, the MOOCs platform of the institute, will roll out nearly 10 courses this year and use the learning to enhance the educational experience of on-campus students.
Anant Agarwal, chief executive of edX, said his platform has 4.5 million students and IIMB will deliver quality courses and “new perspectives to the edX learning community and reach learners around the world”.
Indian Institute of Technology Bombay is already in partnership with edX.
MOOCs are considered to be a good tool for continuous learning, largely for free.
