New Delhi: Microsoft India is perceived as the most attractive employer in the country for the fourth consecutive year, according to a 2014 employees’ perception survey conducted by global human resource company Randstad.
Larsen and Toubro Ltd (L&T) in infrastructure, Tata Power Co. Ltd in energy, State Bank of India in banking and Taj Group of Hotels in hospitality emerged as the most attractive companies, according to the study released on Wednesday.
The survey, conducted among 150 companies with more than 1,000 employees each, based its results on what the respondents looked for in choosing an employer in terms of salaries, job security, work-life balance, career progression and other such factors.
The study found that employees in India prefer a competitive salary and related benefits over career progression. The respondents also said they also weighed employee benefits, long-term job security, a company’s financial health, work-life balance and working atmosphere as top criteria when choosing an employer.
“Indian responses were in sync with global traits where salary and employee benefit was the top priority followed by job security,” Randstad said.
In terms of gender, men in India prefer companies that offer competitive salaries, job security and are financially healthy, whereas women look for good work atmosphere and flexible work conditions, the survey said.
Respondents of the survey with master’s degree are more attracted to companies which offer competitive salary and where as respondents with lower education look for companies which offer training, job content and accessibility.
In terms of employer personality traits, men are more attracted to secure employers, and women to highly regarded employers.
Overall, “honesty, reliability, security, and intelligence are the key characteristics, potential employees look for in an employer,” the survey said.
As for work-life balance, Indians see it threatened mainly by unfavourable work environment, too many deadlines and poor cooperation.
Employees found the information technology, communication and telecom sector as the most attractive, followed by the consumer goods and retail and automobile sectors, according to the survey.
