Lodha panel gets five more months to frame administrative guidelines for BCCI
Committee is consulting a wide spectrum of stakeholders, including former players and editors of media houses
New Delhi: The Supreme Court-appointed committee headed by former chief justice of India R.M. Lodha sought an extension of five months to propose new administrative guidelines for the working of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
The committee is consulting a wide spectrum of stakeholders, including former players and editors of media houses, and more time is needed to take their views on board, the court was informed.
The court granted time till 31 December.
The committee comprising justices Lodha, Ashok Bhan and R.V. Raveendran was constituted by the apex court, while disposing of a writ petition filed by the Cricket Association of Bihar against BCCI.
The Cricket Association of Bihar, on its part, filed a plea before the Supreme Court on Friday, requesting it to order the Lodha Committee to look into the sealed envelope containing the names of some players allegedly involved in spot-fixing in the Indian Premier League and the full text of the third report submitted by the Mukul Mudgal Committee.
The Mudgal Committee examined betting allegations against 13 people, including current International Cricket Council chairman N. Srinivasan and his son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan.
A bench comprising justices T.S. Thakur and F.M.I. Kafiullah denied the association’s request, leaving it to the Lodha Committee to consider the matter.
“If the committee does not look into the sealed envelope and the third report, you can make a representation and inform them," the court told advocate Nalini Chidambaram, who appeared for the Cricket Association of Bihar.
