An instaVaani poll of voters across urban India, after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s sold-out speech in Madison Square Garden, showed almost universal approval of his international trips and his US address; 92.6% of respondents said he had helped India’s cause and boosted its image internationally.
Over a quarter of Indians (25.3%), however, thought that Modi’s promise of a house for every Indian by 2022—within the next eight years—was something that he would not be able to deliver.
Some 24.2% of Indians polled thought that Modi was spending too much time abroad, while 75.8% thought that he wasn’t doing too many international trips.
Urban Indians were optimistic about Modi’s invitation to foreign investors to manufacture in India, with 85% supporting the initiative. Respondents also believed that Modi’s invitation to the world to use Indian workers would be welcomed internationally. Around 78.4% thought that the world would welcome outsourcing and Indian workers, while 21.6% thought that the reaction would be hostile.
Modi is still, clearly, an incredibly popular Prime Minister—Indians, notoriously cynical about their politicians, remain highly optimistic about Modi, and a large majority appear to believe that his most ambitious promises will be fulfilled within the promised timeframe.
