Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta, to raise fee by 20%
The institute had last raised its fees in 2010 for its two flagship courses
Kolkata: The Indian Institute Management, Calcutta (IIM-C), on Saturday announced it will raise fees for its two-year diploma programme from this year by about 20% from ₹ 13.5 lakh to ₹ 16.2 lakh.
The institute had last raised its fees in 2010 for its two flagship courses—post graduate diploma in management and post graduate diploma in computer aided management.
“We did not raise fees for four years despite inflationary pressure but now wish to match the fees of IIM-A (Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad) and IIM-B (Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore) in order to maintain quality of teaching," said Ajit Balakrishnan, chairman of IIM-C’s board of governors.
The increase in income will help IIM-C offer more scholarships as well, he said. Currently, IIM-C spends around ₹ 5 crore a year on scholarships. The fee hike would help “add a few crore more", Balakrishnan added.
IIM-A and IIM-B charge ₹ 16.6 lakh and ₹ 17 lakh, respectively, having raised fees last year by 7-13%. They have said they won’t raise fees this year.
