Are new states better off?
An analysis of four ‘new’ states shows that many of them have made rapid strides in social and economic indicators
One of the arguments put forth while creating new states—such as the in-principle one to create India’s 29th, Telangana—is that it will facilitate better governance, and development. An analysis of four ‘new’ states shows that this is by and large true and that many of them have made rapid strides in social and economic indicators. The economic argument is a far stronger one—all new states are growing faster than the nation, albeit on a lower base.
