Govt has taken steps to enhance power generation: Jairam Ramesh
New Delhi: The government has said that it has taken various steps, including import of coal to meet the demand, to ramp up power generation capacity in the country.
“We have taken steps to enhance power generation, have imported coal to bridge the gap between domestic availability and requirement of coal," minister of state for power, Jairam Ramesh said.
“Rigorous monitoring of capacity addition of the ongoing power generation projects proposed in the 11th Five-Year Plan is being done, development of ultra mega power projects of 4,000 MW each to reap benefits of economies of scale, harnessing surplus power into Grid is being done," he said informing that the government is taking up new hydro power projects in Bhutan for import of power into the country and is enhancing generation from the available sources.
The government has set a power capacity addition target of 78,577 MW in the current Five Year Plan-2007-12.
