NGT to hear diesel ban case
The National Green Tribunal (NGT) will hear a case regarding implementation of its April 2015 order, wherein it had banned diesel vehicles that were over 10 years old from plying on the roads of Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR).
On 20 July, the court had held that the process of de-registration of diesel vehicles in NCR would start with scrapping of 15-year-old diesel vehicles, to be followed by less older vehicles. Read more.
Thereafter, Tata Motors and Mercedes moved the court against the ban and said that they feared a loss in revenue if the ban continued. Read more.
DLF’s challenge to CCI penalty
The apex court will hear a plea by real estate developer DLF Ltd challenging a ₹ 630 crore fine imposed on it by the Competition Commission of India for alleged unfair business practices.
DLF was penalized by the competition regulator for allegedly abusing its dominant position by imposing “unfair and discriminatory" terms on its buyers through apartment buyers’ agreements.
Constitutionality of entry tax
A nine-judge bench of the Supreme Court will continue hearing a question of validity of entry tax levied by state governments on goods. Several companies, including Vedanta Aluminium Ltd, Essar Steel Ltd, Tata Steel Ltd and Adani Enterprises Ltd, contended that the entry tax provisions violate the right to free trade and commerce guaranteed under the Constitution. Mahyco Monsanto’s trademark infringement case against Nuziveedu Seeds
Seed major Mahyco Monsanto Biotech Ltd’s plea against Nuziveedu Seeds for infringing its trademark and selling seeds beyond the period of licence will be heard on Wednesday. In an earlier hearing, the court had restrained Nuziveedu Seeds from selling seeds manufactured after November 2015 when the licence agreement was terminated.
The court had also appointed local commissioners to make an inventory of stocks available with Nuziveedu Seeds. Read more.
