Vinay Kwatra named joint secretary in PMO
Kwatra replaces incumbent Jawed Ashraf
New Delhi: Vinay Kwatra, joint secretary in charge of the Americas division in the ministry of external affairs, has been appointed joint secretary in the Prime Minister’s office, a government statement said on Tuesday. Kwatra replaces incumbent Jawed Ashraf.
Ashraf, also a former joint secretary in charge of the Americas division, was in charge of foreign affairs, space, defence and atomic energy in the Prime Minister’s office.
Kwatra, who was earlier on the Pakistan-Afghanistan-Iran desk, was also in charge of the counter-terrorism desk. A fluent Hindi speaker, he was seen at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s side quite regularly during incoming and outgoing visits starting with Modi’s visit to Brazil in July last year for the Brics summit.
