New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday criticized the selection of some ministers in Sunday’s cabinet expansion. The party expressed its disapproval over inducting Jagat Prakash Nadda as health minister and Giriraj Singh as minister of state for micro, small and medium enterprises.

Chief spokesperson of the party Yogendra Yadav said, “The inclusion of J.P. Nadda in the cabinet is not a good sign for the country. Giving him the health ministry crosses all borders. We have got the message that the Prime Minister, after knowing everything, has no qualms in appointing Nadda as the health minister. The message is that loyalty is everything for the Prime Minister and everything else is secondary. The same goes for the appointment of Giriraj Singh as well. For show, they have included a few honest members, but when it comes to important positions in the government, all boundaries are being sidelined."

In August, the AAP had accused Nadda of getting the chief vigilance officer of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) removed by then minister for health and family welfare Harsh Vardhan. Nadda’s elevation is in direct contrast to the BJP’s pre-election promise of providing a corruption-free government and this move will send a wrong signal for the country’s bureaucracy, said a statement released by the party.

“Sending Nadda to the cabinet is a message for the bureaucracy of the country. I don’t know if this is what the PM is trying to convey but any bureaucrat of the country will now know that honesty is one thing and obeying what the government says is another thing," Yadav said.

The party said that the government should have certain guidelines within which appointments should be made.
