SC extends time for AICTE approval of technical colleges
SC provides relief to both institutes and AICTE by modifying earlier order
New Delhi: The Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday granted a week’s extension to the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to process and approve applications from various technical institutions.
A bench of justices Vikramajit Sen and Shiva Kirti Singh provided relief to both technical institutes and the AICTE by modifying its earlier order and laying down an alternate schedule for admissions. The AICTE is to now process 529 applications in a week’s time and pass its decision. The admission dates have also been changed. First round of counselling for allocation of seats will now be completed by 15 July, second round by 25 July and 29 July is the date for the last round. This keeps to the earlier schedule of classes beginning on 1 August.
The court also directed that AICTE first consider those colleges whose grant of approval was only stopped because of its earlier order.
