Kolkata: The ministry of petroleum and natural gas has drawn up plans to provide piped natural gas (PNG) to the city over the next two-three years. It also intends to introduce compressed natural gas (CNG) as transport fuel to reduce pollution in the city.

Dharmendra Pradhan, minister of state (independent charge) for petroleum and natural gas, said the centre and the state would work together to make cooking gas available to the urban households of the city through PNG connections.

“We are talking to the state government, we have their cooperation," he said.

Part of 12,000 crore Jagdishpur-Haldia pipeline project, where 60% of the project cost would be borne by Gail (India) Ltd with 40% contribution from the centre, separate PNG pipeline for Kolkata would be lay down, the minister said.
