Will protect interests of Indian citizens: Sarbananda Sonowal
In an interview to NDTV, BJP's CM candidate Sarbananda Sonowal said that his party was ready to take on challenges like infiltration and unemployment
New Delhi: As the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) moved to its victory on Thursday morning, overturning three-term Congress government led by Tarun Gogoi, the party’s chief ministerial candidate Sarbananda Sonowal, who is leading from Majuli, told NDTV that his party was ready to take on challenges like infiltration and unemployment.
“We have challenges like infiltration, flooding, unemployment. Our main target is to protect the interests of bona fide citizens. It doesn’t matter if they are Hindus or Muslims," said Sonowal.
“We have to bring Bengalis, Punjabis and Marwaris together in Assam. We have to live together, work together and fight together," he added.
He said the party will perform well with the blessings of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was especially focusing on north-eastern India.
Himanta Biswa Sarma, senior BJP leader who broke away from the Congress, said Sonowal’s contribution is unique. “Sonowal has a bigger role to play in future," Sarma told NDTV.
Earlier in the day, incumbent CM Gogoi, who is leading from Titabar constituency, wished Sonowal luck.
