New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday declined urgent hearing in a petition filed against the amending ordinance that allowed state governments to be exempt from the ambit of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).
“This will cause further confusion. Let there be some certainty,” the court said.
Health activist Anand Rai on Thursday moved the apex court against the ordinance.
The petition sought quashing of the ordinance and questioned the Centre’s flip-flop on the issue.
The government introduced an ordinance earlier this week, which allowed state governments to be exempt from NEET this year. The ordinance also gave NEET a statutory backing.
Last month, the Supreme Court directed that a single entrance test for medical and dental colleges in the country should be held. At the time, the Centre had given an undertaking and fulfilled criteria for a unified NEET. Rai contended that within four weeks, it passed the ordinance.
