So far in the current financial year, the National Democratic Alliance government has garnered Rs23,528.73 crore through disinvestment, which includes Rs21,432.38 crore through minority stake sales in 14 public sector units and Rs2,096.35 crore through strategic sales.

The government has a disinvestment target of Rs56,500 crore for the financial year, including Rs20,500 crore through strategic stake sales. This year, the government has focused more on share buybacks—asking cash-rich PSUs to buy the government’s stake in the company—rather than the offer-for-sale method, to raise resources from the equity market.
