New Delhi: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Monday sought responses from the parties in an application filed by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s Art of Living Foundation, seeking to pay a compensation in the form of a bank guarantee for alleged violation of environmental norms during a cultural event organised by the foundation last month.

The responses will be expected from environmental activist Manoj Misra, the Delhi government and the Delhi Development Authority.

AOL foundation was asked to pay a compensation for hosting a three-day World Culture Festival on the Yamuna floodplains. Activists like Misra of the Yamuna Jiye Abhiyan moved the NGT against this.

Mint reported on Sunday that AOL moved the apex environmental tribunal seeking to pay a 5 crore compensation through a bank guarantee.

On 11 March, the NGT directed AOL to pay 25 lakh the same day and the remaining amount within three weeks.

Lawyer Sanjay Parikh, representing Misra, said that they strongly opposed the plea for furnishing a bank guarantee. He said the AOL application subverted the rule of law and the tribunal’s orders.

Swatanter Kumar, chairperson of the green tribunal, said that at this stage the NGT would not express an opinion. The bench asked Misra to record his objections by way of a written response.

He then asked AOL whether it intended to vacate the location.

AOL said that it was in the process of vacating the site.

The NGT will hear the case next on 21 April.
