Indore: Environment minister Anil Dave said on Sunday that his ministry was thinking of giving environmental clearances for industrial and other projects within 60 days, reducing the time it takes to grant clearances by half.

When the Narendra Modi government took charge in May 2014, it used to take 300 days to grant environment clearances, Dave, a Rajya Sabha MP from Madhya Pradesh said at a global investors’ summit in Indore.

“This has been reduced to 120 days and now I think we can bring it down to two months or 60 days. My ministry is thinking of giving clearances in 60 days only," the minister said. He said the ministry would take a decision on each file within two months of submission.

Dave also told the investors that the Modi cabinet was running a clean governance. “People in my ministry tell me that various taxes had to be paid under various names. Now that has stopped. No tax will have to be paid and you are not supposed to pay any tax to anybody," Dave said.

Dave also urged global and domestic companies to invest in environment. Madhya Pradesh, with its rich forest cover, was a great place for investment in the green sector and environmental technologies, Dave said.
