Core sector grows at 2.9% in March

New Delhi: The six core industries which constitute 26.7% of the industrial output data grew at a robust 2.9% in March, same as a year ago, raising hopes of better factory output data during the month. This is the highest sequential core sector growth rate since September last year when it grew at 3.9%.

Data for the Index of Industrial Production for the same month will be released on 12 May by the Central Statistical Organisation.

According to data released by the ministry of commerce and industry on Wednesday, the core sector grew at 2.7% during 2008-09 (April-March), compared with 5.9% a year ago.
