New Delhi: Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corp. (IRCTC) has started e-catering services for 76 trains across the country, in its bid to provide quality food to passengers.

Passengers can order food at or call the toll-free number 1800-1034-139 or 0120-4383892-99 to avail the facility, a senior IRCTC official said. Apart from a few Jan Shatabdi and Garib Rath trains, the service is available on Bhopal Express, Jammu Mail, Nagercoli Express, Hyderabad Express, East Coast Express, Himalaya Express, Shalimar Express, Gorakhdham Express and Shaane Express, among others.

The facility will be extended to more trains in phases, the official said. The food will be supplied from 80 IRCTC-run food plazas and fast food restaurants near various stations. Passengers who book the food through phone will have to make the payment at the time of delivery, while those making online orders will have to pay online.

IRCTC had earlier launched the food delivery services on the Delhi–Amritsar section on a trial basis, from 25 September, 2014, in non-pantry car trains.

Passengers with confirmed reservation could place the order either through phone or SMS to 139 and the food used to be delivered at his seat against cash receipt. After the successful trial, the e-catering facility has been extended to 76 trains across the country now, the official said, adding that the names of the trains which provide the facility is available on the IRCTC website.
