DMK protests outside Tamil Nadu assembly

Tamil Nadu assembly speaker P. Dhanapal on Thursday refused to withdraw the suspension order against 80 Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) legislators. The suspended MLAs, including the leader of opposition M.K. Stalin, staged a sit-in protest for more than two hours outside the Tamil Nadu legislative assembly. Security personnel did not allow the entry of the suspended DMK members. Read more

Sharad Pawar keen on alliance with ‘like-minded’ parties in poll-bound states

In a bid to remain politically relevant, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar has asked party leaders, specially state unit chiefs, to initiate alliances with “like-minded parties" in their respective states. The move is significant because the party wants to initiate alliances, particularly with the Congress party, in poll-bound states of Gujarat, Goa, Uttar Pradesh and even in Maharashtra for the upcoming civic polls this year. Madras high court sends notice to Jayalalithaa over RK Nagar victory

The Madras high court on Thursday sent notice to Tamil Nadu chief minister J. Jayalalithaa and election commission officials over the validity of her victory in the May assembly election. The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) supremo defeated political novice Shimla Muthuchozhan of DMK by a margin of 39,545 votes in the 16 May election. Read more

Kejriwal to visit Goa

Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) national convenor and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal will arrive in Goa on Saturday on a three-day visit to the state. Briefing reporters about Kejriwal’s schedule in Goa, state convenor Rajashree Nagarsekar said that on his arrival on Saturday, Kejriwal will head to Usgao for a meeting with mining dependants.
