The first nine months of 2012 saw private equity (PE) investments worth $6.40 billion in Indian companies across 337 deals.

This was down 33% from investments of $9.50 billion across 311 deals for the same period last year, as regulatory uncertainties, sluggish market conditions and lower deal-making opportunities continue to dampen investor interest.

The third quarter aggregated $2.42 billion across 102 deals.

The manufacturing sector occupied the second slot. Real estate and BFSI were other significant sectors.

Mint, in association with Four-S Services, presents a snapshot of the private equity landscape in India. The charts cover PE activity for the last quarter.
