Mumbai: The Wadia Group on Wednesday filed a police complaint claiming that they received a threatening “message" over phone from fugitive underworld don Ravi Pujari. A secretary to industrialist Nusli Wadia approached NM Joshi Marg police station on Tuesday saying a “threat" message was received on a mobile phone from somebody who claimed he was fugitive gangster Pujari, deputy police commissioner Mahesh Patil said.

The secretary’s name has been withheld. Patil, however, did not clarify if the phone belonged to the secretary or one of the members of the Wadia family. The complaint has now been transferred to the crime branch, which usually probes cases related to the underworld. The Wadia family has been in the spotlight over the last few days after Nusli Wadia’s elder son Ness Wadia was accused by his former girlfriend and actress Priety Zinta of abuse and molestation during an Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket match on 30May. Ness Wadia has denied the charge. Ness and Zinta had broken off their courtship a few years back but continued to share business interest and co-owned IPL team Kings XI Punjab.

Though the police did not confirm the threat had anything to do with the Ness-Zinta episode, some TV channels claimed the gangster asked the Wadia family not to “harass" the actress and warned of “dire consequences" if it did not stop. No spokesman for the Wadia Group could be immediately contacted for comments.
