Kejriwal questions Bharti's act of going into hiding and urges him to surrender to the police
New Delhi: Delhi chief minister and national convener of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday asked his colleague Somnath Bharti, who is facing charges of domestic violence, to surrender to the police and said he was becoming an embarrassement to the party.
Bharti, the Delhi assembly member from the Malviya Nagar constituency is facing allegations of domestic violence and attempt to murder. On Tuesday, the Delhi high court declined to grant him anticipatory bail.
Delhi police has been searching for Bharti since the anticipatory bail was turned down by the court.
AAP leader Ashutosh on Wednesday said while police has been “unnecessarily showing a lot of interest" in the case, Bharti should “surrender and present his side of the story". “The high court has rejected his bail... he should come out in open and present his case before the investigating agency. There is no point in running away from the law.. we have respect for the law, we have respect for the courts and we believe that justice will be done," he said.
