Election results: Kirron Kher defeats Gul Panag to win Chandigarh seat
BJP got 42.2% of votes polled while Congress managed 26.8% and AAP 24% in the Lok Sabha election
New Delhi: Kirron Kher of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won in Chandigarh by a margin of It is 69,642 votes in Lok Sabha elections, result trends showed.
She was contesting against Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Gul Panag and Pawan Kumar Bansal of Congress. Panag got 108,679 votes, while runner-up Bansal managed to win 121,720 votes, according to the Election Commission of India (EC).
Popularly termed as a star-studded election, Chandigarh saw prominent actors including Anupam Kher and Anil Kapoor vouching for Kirron Kher, while Raghu Ram of MTV Roadies and Punjabi Singer Jaswinder Jassi supported AAP during the election campaign.
The BJP got 42.2% of the votes, while Congress managed 26.8%, AAP 24% and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) got 3.5% of votes.
None of the above (NOTA) option got 3,106 votes, constituting 0.7% of the total ballots. BJP is also leading in all seven parliamentary constituencies of Delhi with AAP following it.
