Chennai: The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagham (AIADMK) has retaliated against Union minister Piyush Goyal’s remarks that the Tamil Nadu government was unresponsive and he couldn’t reach out to chief minister J. Jayalalithaa.

Goyal made the remarks at a youth conference in New Delhi on Friday.

“There is not even an iota of truth in these allegations and these are baseless remarks which are made for political mileage," said O. Panneerselvam, Tamil Nadu finance minister, in a statement.

On Sunday, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) chief M. Karunanidhi sought a response from Jayalalithaa in response to Goyal’s claim.

Panneerselvam also pointed out the number of meetings that had taken place since 2014. “Prime Minister (Narendra) Modi and his ministers met ‘Amma’ on eight occasions in the last two years," he said.

“Piyush Goyal and others should face the elections in a democratic way on the basis of principles, welfare schemes, etc.," the statement said.

Tamil Nadu goes to polls on 16 May. Congress has tied up with DMK and the Bharatiya Janata Party, after failed attempts to rope in Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK), is looking at joining some smaller parties.

AIADMK which has maintained silence over alliances will also look at roping in some minor parties.
