Rajeev Kher appointed India’s new commerce secretary
Appointments Committee of the Cabinet names Kher to replace current secretary S.R. Rao who retires on 31 January
New Delhi: Rajeev Kher, a 1980 batch IAS officer, was on Wednesday appointed secretary in the department of commerce. The UP cadre officer is currently special secretary in the department in the ministry of commerce and industry.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) named Kher to replace current secretary S.R. Rao, who retires on 31 January, according to an official statement.
The ACC also extended the tenure of J. Satyanarayana as secretary in the department of electronics and information technology beyond 13 March to 30 April, the date of his superannuation.
The term of V.S. Madan, director general and mission director of the Unique Identification Authority of India, has been extended for one year beyond 28 April.
