With nearly 50% of the Indian population dependent on agriculture for a livelihood, farmers are a key electoral constituency.
Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, a survey conducted by the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies (CSDS) for Bharat Krishak Samaj, a farmers’ association, provides insight into the socioeconomic conditions and aspirations of the farming community, based on a survey of 5,350 households in 18 states.
