Former IAS officer J. Satyanarayana appointed part-time UIDAI chairman
netCORE Solutions founder Rajesh Jain, and former Persistent Systems CEO Anand Deshpande appointed part-time members of the UIDAI
New Delhi: The government on Tuesday appointed former information technology secretary J. Satyanarayana as the part-time chairperson of Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).
Satyanarayana will succeed Nandan Nilekani, who was the first chairperson of UIDAI and held the position between 2009 to 2014. The post of the chairman was lying vacant since Nilekani quit.
However, following the enactment of the Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and Other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Bill, 2016, the government initiated the process of appointment of chairman and members to UIDAI.
Satyanarayana is a former Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the 1977 batch belonging to the Andhra Pradesh cadre. He was appointed as secretary in the department of electronics and information technology in 2012.
“Wish @jsnarayana77 all best wishes as he continues the #Aadhaar led transformation of India!" tweeted Nilekani congratulating Satyanarayana.
Besides the chairman, the appointments committee of the cabinet also appointed Rajesh Jain and Anand Deshpande as part-time members of the UIDAI.
Jain is founder and managing director of netCORE solutions, an IT-based firm while Deshpande is founder and chief executive officer of Persistent Systems, a global company specialising in software product development services.
