M.K. Alagiri was suspended from the party on 24 January for airing “strong opinions against the party, leading to a confusion within the party”.

Chennai: The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has warned of strict action against partymen joining or keeping in touch with M.K. Alagiri, former Union minister and the elder son of party chief M. Karunanidhi.

“This is a stern warning to party cadres and leaders in various positions within the party that they should not have anything to do with Alagiri," said a DMK statement signed by K. Anbazhagan, party general secretary.

“If the party comes to know of such people, disciplinary action will be taken against them," it added.

Maintaining that he had been “unfairly vilified" and suspended from the party, Alagiri on Monday alleged that “some forces" in the DMK had not been allowing Karunanidhi to discharge his functions as party president.

“They are harassing the president of the party," he told a large gathering of supporters, in remarks seen as being aimed against his younger brother and DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin.

The Dravidian party has renominated former telecom ministers A. Raja and Dayanidhi Maran, who are suspects in the case relating to irregularities in the allocation of 2G spectrum in 2008, to contest the Lok Sabha polls from Tamil Nadu. The DMK has denied a seat to Alagiri.
