New Delhi: Government has sanctioned 20 projects costing Rs2466.53 crore under the urban infrastructure and governance component of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).
The 20 projects have a committed Additional Central Assistance of Rs1181.69 crore, Urban Development Minister S Jaipal Reddy said during Question Hour in the Lok Sabha today.
Reddy said the first installment of ACA amounting to Rs450.77 crore has been released for 60 projects in the Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme for Small and Medium Towns under the JNNURM.
However, the Minister said the response from some states to the scheme has not been adequate.
On extending the scheme to cantonment areas within cities, Reddy said in several such areas the local governing authorities were not functional.
He noted that elections to a number of cantonment boards have not been held and hence the scheme cannot be extended there.
In reply to a separate question, Women and Child Development Minister Renuka Chowdhury said the Integrated Child Protection Scheme is yet to be cleared by the Union Cabinet and hence could not be implemented.
Responding to a question by BJP member Ratilal Verma, she appreciated the steps taken by the Gujarat government for launching schemes to protect the girl child.
“It is good that some states are doing it. They are responsible states and there is nothing to be surprised of as they are performing their duty,” she said when Verma pointed out that the Gujarat government already has schemes for the girl child and women’s welfare.
