Krishna not to use private jet on tours
New Delhi: Following the finance ministry’s directions to cut down the expenses, Union external affairs minister S.M. Krishna, who along with minister of state for external affairs Shashi Tharoor came under fire for staying in a luxury hotel, said on Sunday that he would neither use private aircraft nor travel business class when he goes abroad.
“I will not henceforth use private planes for visits outside the country and will not travel business class," Krishna said.
Krishna will go to Turkmenistan and Belarus on 15 September on a commercial flight and will only take three officials along with him, said an official in his ministry, who did not want to be identified.
The minister, who is entitled to use private jet in his foreign trips, usually flies in an Air Force Embraer jet for the trips outside India.
