Sebi-Sahara dispute
The Supreme Court will hear a request from Sahara group chief Subrata Roy to pay additional ₹ 300 crore to capital market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) to be adjusted as bank guarantee. Roy was released on parole by the apex court earlier this year, allowing him to pay the court-set bail amount of ₹ 10,000 crore. Read more
Reliance Industries and Indian government’s KG basin arbitration
A two-judge bench of the Supreme Court on Monday will hear the arbitration petition filed by Reliance Industries Ltd for resolving a gas-pricing dispute arising out of the production sharing contracts the Union government entered into with the Mukesh Ambani-owned company. The change in the arbitration laws, which altered the legal position on who could hear pleas regarding appointment of an arbitrator, has resulted in this case being kept pending for some time. The dispute arises as the government has claimed that gas pricing is a policy issue which cannot be arbitrated upon. Read more
Delhi government’s petition to clarify jurisdiction
The Supreme Court will also hear Delhi government’s petition seeking a declaration regarding its jurisdiction as a state under the Constitution. The Delhi high court recently declared the Lieutenant Governor the administrative head of the national capital territory. The Delhi government on Wednesday filed its appeal against this high court decision. Read more
Aircel plea over payment of one time spectrum charge
The apex court will hear Aircel Cellular Ltd’s plea against a Madras high court ruling which upheld the payment of over ₹ 3,000 crore as a one-time spectrum charge. The company moved the court earlier this week, seeking an early hearing. Read more
National policy for taxi aggregators
The Delhi high court will hear a case brought by the Association of Radio Taxis, which has repeatedly brought to the court’s notice that Ola was plying diesel vehicles in Delhi in violation of Supreme Court orders, the Radio Taxi Scheme, 2006, and City Taxi Scheme of 2015. On 11 August, the high court directed a panel appointed by the Central government to come up with a policy to govern all cab services nationwide. Read more
The court directed the Union roads ministry, which has formed the committee to include experts from law enforcement, traffic and environment management and technology. The committee was granted three months to submit its report. This report will be non-binding in nature and help resolve issues arising out of recent advancements in the field of taxi services.

Subramanian Swamy’s plea for suspension of AirAsia’s licence
The court will hear Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subramanian Swamy’s plea, seeking suspension of a flying licence granted to AirAsia India, alleging that it had obtained the licence through fraud. Swamy contended that one of the officials made a false statement in his counter affidavit filed in the court, while the other two acted with the alleged intention of “misleading" the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB), the civil aviation ministry and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation into granting of approvals, permits and permissions.
