SC seeks Centre’s reply on plea for extension of superannuation age of army doctors
The petition says that the benefit of extension granted to doctors employed in various ministries/Central departments should also be extended to army medical officers
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday issued a notice to the Centre on a plea seeking an extension of the superannuation age of medical officers belonging to the Army Medical Corps/Army Dental Corps to 65 years.
The current retirement age of medical officers in the army is 58 years.
The petition was brought by eight medical officers who sought an extension of the superannuation age while alleging discrimination and violation of Article 14 (Right to Equality) under the Constitution.
Seeking to be put on the same footing as medical officers of paramilitary and central police forces, the petition stated that the benefit of extension granted to medical officers employed in various ministries/departments of the Central government should also be extended to medical officers in the Indian Army.
The matter will be heard next on 1 August.
